Ive been distracted lately and spending a lot of time on Facebook.
When I first opened a Facebook account, I was one of those people that felt the need to update my status all.the.time. It was important and everyone did it--I knew when so-and-so was going for a walk and where this-person was going out to dinner. Facebook at that time left little to the imagination.
Now, I rarely update my status. Making updates about where I am, where I am going to be or something I find funny doesnt have the same effect it did in the beginning.
Others arent updating either--my newsfeed has updates from 30 minutes ago but none that are under a minute or five minutes ago.
Facebook used to be the cool website and now, its just Facebook.
It comes pre-loaded as an application is almost every new phone on Verizons network (not sure about ATT and the others) and can be updated from anywhere at anytime.
When Facebook first started I thought it was incredibly boring. What would I do without a page I could put a background on, name my top friends and post longgg surveys for everyone to see? Then it became the cool thing to do and have and now, its remained. Sadly though, Facebook is becoming boring again. There is only so much a person can do on there.
It makes me think about the fate of the addictive site and what will be the next one. I remember when MySpace first started and everyone had one, parents complained they were dangerous, it got boring and then it (for lack of a better word) died. Bulletins stopped getting posted and in droves people deleted their default and top friends.
Its funny how social networking works. Blogging is a social network and I know personally, I would rather blog than go on Facebook yet I get sucked in and check it every few minutes, look through pictures and chat with people. Having a blog is a completely different way of networking than Facebook. Twitter is a social network yet it runs differently than most. While you have followers, there are no picture albums updated and events to attend.
I guess the main question of this post is, what will be the new Facebook? Because pretty soon, the rest of the world is going to get bored.
