the bachelorette ain't got nothin' on ree

After months of waiting, I picked up Black Heels to Tractor Wheels from the library this afternoon. This book, written by the fabulous Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, captivated me with her story and I literally could not put the book down.

All week I had waited to watch the hometown dates on The Bachelorette but my attention was fastened within the flower adorned pages that lay on my lap.

I devoured the 300 and some-odd pages in a few hours only taking a short break to eat dinner and say hello to a family friend that had popped over. I haven't read a book with such a vengeance in a while and it definitely felt good.

This story is one of incredible love that left me begging for a relationship quite like Ree and Marlboro Man's. All of a sudden I had thrown my fantasies of traveling to Ireland and finding a cute boy with an Irish accent out the window and come up with a new plan to head on over to the mid west and find myself a cowboy.

For some reason, this intoxicating tale of love left me feeling fine and pretty content with my lack of romantic relationships.

While it doesn't bother me too much, there has always been a feeling of hurt that i've never been on a date or had a boyfriend. The intense thoughts of rejection and self worth are sometimes overpowering when everyone else has or has had relationships and you haven't.

Surprisingly though, Ree's words left me feeling better about those emotions. I realize that I am 20 years old--barely an adult and making my way into the world through college life that is filled with lots of incredibly superficial and shallow guys. I would wait (for almost) forever to find someone like Marlboro Man--someone who is kind, strong, hot and a million other great characteristics.

I would rather wait for the one person I connect with than feel bad about myself for never being in a relationship. If waiting for the right one means finding true, incredible love than I am more than content to trust my faith in everything happens for a reason and welcome the opportunity when it comes my way instead of constantly worrying and seeking.
