The brown insides of mushrooms have permanently stained finger creases I never even knew I had and small burns, bruises and cuts litter my arms, legs and hands. My life has become working where I do everything from baking cookies to making deliveries an hour away.
Back in April I began my job search. After applying to several, I took a small break from filling out questionnaires about my habits after not hearing back from anyone. I tried again in May to send my resume out but either no one was hiring or my "application did not meet the requirements" (umm..how does my application not meet the requirements to even be submitted for Kohls?)
My quest for jobs left me frustrated and not satisfied with the places I had applied to. I didn't want to work at any of them. Close to the end of the school year, my father told me I could work at his catering business which I did not want to do. I like cooking things but working in a commercial kitchen? not for me. I told him that if I could do office work, maybe, I would consider it.
Well, guess where I've been? Except my "only office work" request got changed into kitchen work a few weeks in when I quit and then decided to come back which I actually like a lot better. There's no education like a catering education and cooking/baking/delivering all day can be quite fun.
While entertaining, it is also incredibly tiring. I get home from a day of work and want nothing but to go to sleep. Being on your feet for about 9 hours a day and waking up at 630 aren't exactly the directions for making a restful summer.
I thought this job would be different working with my dad and my aunt but thankfully they don't treat me any differently than a regular worker which has been the best thing. I've learned to keep up and work hard because that's really what lifes about.
