facebook

I remember when Facebook first came out. I made one and so did a few of my friends but the only opinion we had of it was that it was incredibly boring. There were no applications and no personalization. We all had approximately 15 friends and hundreds on Myspace. Its funny that in 2 or 3 years, Facebook has blown up the internet and Myspace is in pieces.
Personalization still has not taken over Facebook, but it doesnt seem to matter anymore. Applications were really popular when they first came out, and now if I have two its a lot. No matter how simple Facebook seems to be, its addicting.
I find it really weird actually. How can something so simple and almost...useless...capture everyone in the world so easily. Why do people have Facebook in the first place? Most say to talk and connect to people, but most of the time, I add people from school that I dont really talk to or people from elementary school I havent seen in 10 years. Even though we havent seen each other or conversed, finding them is still incredibly exciting. 'Look who i found!"
its funny to see how many people have Facebook now just to have it. So many people never update their status, change their pictures, talk to anyone--but add people like its their job.
To me, it doesnt seem like I have a lot of friends. I have 576 to be exact and if I didnt go on occasional deleting sprees, I would probably have more. Yes, I talk to people and i.m. people, add people and take new pictures.
The most funny thing to me though is that, despite how much i dont like what Facebook is turning into, I dont think I could ever leave it.
Why is something so simple, so non-essential to life so important?

  1. Love the last sentence...I've asked that question many times. My boyfriend deleted his facebook the other day, I don't think I can bring myself to do it!
